Gross Hematuria Kidney Symptoms

Gross HematuriaGross hematuria as a kidney symptom could indicate the presence of renal cell carcinoma, kidney infection, or kidney stones. The most common kidney cancer among adults is called renal cell carcinoma. People who smoke, are obese, or who are exposed to asbestos and other chemicals are more susceptible to developing a malignant kidney mass. Besides cancer, hematuria can also be caused by kidney infections or diabetes.

Gross hematuria and microscopic hematuria are kidney symptoms that appear with kidney stones. A stone in the kidney can formed from minerals or acids, such as calcium and uric acid, in your urine. Kidney stone causes include dehydration, certain urinary tract infections, certain dietary foods with high oxalate content, and an intake of high-protein foods. Other symptoms of a kidney stone include kidney stone back pain or flank pain, pain in the groin or abdomen, strong urge to urinate, and nausea.

Passing a kidney stone can be one of the most painful experiences you can ever have. As you pass the kidney stone, it can rub or scrape against the walls of the urinary tract and cause urinary bleeding. Kidney stones pain can be felt in several areas, including the back and groin, as the kidney stones in the urine pass out of the body.

Our urologists will explain different options of how to pass the kidney stones. In some cases, doctors will suggest the natural medicine holistic approach to just drink plenty of water and “wait and see” if you can pass the stone naturally. Other patients may be given medicine that can absorb some of the stone. In other cases removal of the kidney stones is necessary to avoid a kidney stone infection, damage to the kidneys or urinary tract or because the stone will not come out naturally.

One kidney stones removal procedure breaks up the stones into tiny fragments. This is called a lithotripsy of the kidney stones. It can be done using sound waves or lasers to break or blast apart the stone into such small fragments that can be flushed out much easier in the urine. A kidney stone stent can also be inserted to expand the pathway through which the stone can travel, thus lessening the pain and damage.

Gross hematuria is a kidney symptom that could be accompanied by other signs of kidney problems, such as abdominal or back pain, or frequent and painful urination. These urinary symptoms, however, are exact or similar to many other urinary conditions. That’s why self-diagnosis and not addressing your kidney symptoms can lead to the wrong treatment and making your condition worse, even making it life-threatening. Gross hematuria may be brought on by renal cell carcinoma or kidney infections so don’t think that these signs of kidney problems will just disappear or not recur at some point. Not receiving the proper kidney treatment can lead to serious health problems, including kidney damage, the loss of a kidney or even the spread of kidney cancer throughout the body.
